At the End of the Day

By

Talking

“I’m home!”

Receiving a hug at the door,

My shoulders stand taller,

My cup a little fuller.

A guiding hand welcomes me inside,

Leading me to the couch,

As I slowly drop items along the way.

A bag heavy with frustration and duty,

A sweater hiding inner feelings,

All falling to the floor in a slow release.

Heavy sighs turn to

Weary eyes turn to

Angry words turn to

Flying birds turn to

Escaping snickers turn to

Forgotten bickers turn to

Reassuring smiles turn to

Rousing wiles turn to

You.

Always you.

Falling into you,

Crashing into you,

Melting into you,

Always you.

Every eve I get home,

And tell you about my day,

Is a time where weighty sorrows fly away,

And the heaviness of existence feels less alone,

Knowing that, by my side, is the one I love most.

To A Ghost

I’m home.

Mind hooked and ruminating,

Like a tornado,

Trailing behind me and ripping through my home.

Keys in the tray,

Shoes askew,

Clothes on the ground,

I lay there too.

My hands clasp over my eyes for some form of relief,

Instead what fills my head is grief.

A home without reception,

Cold hands left unwarmed,

A body heavy without comfort.

I mourn the days of talking:

Where something turned to

Nothing turned to

Forgotten traces of a day,

Later filled with joy,

And love,

And you.

Always you.

Following me day in and day out,

You became my routine,

In the most beautiful way,

A daily dedication,

Now gone.

Your memory lingers,

As I lay on the floor,

Talking,

To a ghost.
