A Fire Feels Its Warmth

Does grass mourn as it dies?

Do flowers fear tearing winds?

Does the sun ever tire of smiling?

Do clouds question their passing existence?

Do nonsentient beings feel?

Are they included in the suffering of life, or are we the only ones resisting the woes that come with living?

If I was a rock, would I not sweat and cry as existence wears on me and scars my outer skin?

If I was a tree, would I not dance in April rains or warmly hug the birds and squirrels that inhabit my inner world?

Why are we the only logical, sentient beings when nature outsmarts us beyond compare?

If you don’t believe me, step outside in a thunderstorm,

and see if lightning laughs as it strikes you down.
